Private Health Insurance & Fee Rebates
  • If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to claim benefits for counselling. You will need to check with your health fund to determine if you are eligible for a rebate.
  • I am a qualified clinical counsellor registered with PACFA. PACFA have agreements with Medibank, ahm, Bupa, HCF, and ARHG (encompassing AIA Health, Australian Defence Force Family Program, Doctors Health, Emergency Services Health, GMHBA, HBF, Mildura Health, Nurses & Midwives Health, Phoenix Health, Police Health, See-u by HBF (Previously CUA), St Luke's Health, Teachers Health, Teachers Union Health, Unihealth, and Westfund)
  • Unfortunately I am unable to accept Mental Health Care Plans for Medicare rebates - learn more below
Concession Reduced Fees
  • I believe counselling should be accessible to those who need it. If you hold a valid concession card (such as Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Pensioner Concession Card, Student Concession Card, Seniors Card, Health Care Card, DVA Card etc), a reduced fee is available. Please mention this when booking to discuss eligibility.
Approved WorkSafe Provider
  • As an approved WorkSafe provider (CL113B) I offer counselling support for injured workers as part of their return-to-work journey, with a focus on mental health well-being and workplace adjustment. Please talk with your referring GP and WorkSafe case manager and provide my registration number A223591F.
NDIS Counselling Provider
  • If you hold NDIS funding under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living Therapy Supports (7 or older) and you are self-managed or have a plan manager, you may engage my counselling services under item number 15_043_0128_1_3. Unfortunately I am unable to provide counselling support for agency-managed plans.
Why Can’t I Use a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) With a Counsellor?
This is a common and understandable question.
Unfortunately, Medicare rebates under a MHCP are currently limited to services provided by specific health care providers. Registered counsellors, no matter how experienced or qualified, are not included in this rebate scheme.
This exclusion is a matter of government policy, not a reflection of counsellors' capability or training. In fact, many Australians choose to see counsellors because they offer:
  • A more flexible and client-led approach
  • Warm, non-clinical environments
  • A focus on wellbeing, relationships, and life transitions
  • Greater accessibility without needing a formal diagnosis
At Island Counselling, I work with adults and couples who are navigating challenges like relationship distress, grief, anxiety, life stage changes, or simply wanting to grow their emotional wellbeing. While I don’t offer Medicare rebates, some clients can claim sessions on their private health insurance (depending on their provider and policy).
Even clients with a formal diagnosis often find value in counselling due to its collaborative, responsive, and human-first style of support.
PACFA is a full member of the Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA).
